Access Statement for The Gulls |
|
| |

Introduction
We like to try and cater for the needs
of all our visitors but, like Looe itself, The Gulls is on
several levels and access for some may present difficulties.
Please contact us for specific information but we hope the
following statement will be helpful.
Buses, trains and getting here
We are situated at the top of Hannafore Road. The lane leading
up to the rear of the Hotel where our small parking bay is
situated is a narrow single track lane. If you have a large
vehicle you may have to reverse about 400 yards back down the
lane to get out as the width of the lane makes it difficult to
turn round.
Looe is on a branch line from the mainline station of Liskeard.
There is a good service into Liskeard by First Great Western and
Virgin Trains. There could be a wait of up to an hour for a
connecting train to Looe. If available we do have transport to
collect you from either Liskeard or Looe.
Arrival, parking and reception
If you are arriving at the rear of the property there is parking
for up to two vehicles on our small parking bay. From the car
park there are 13 wooden steps down to the back door and there
are three small steps into the rear entrance. We always offer
assistance with luggage and equipment and are always here to
welcome new arrivals. There is a 25 cm (10 inch) high threshold
to the front door. There is a doorbell on the back door.
To the front of the property there is a walk of about 50 yards
from the main road up a gentle incline to our front entrance.
Once through the front gate there are six low steps to the
sliding patio front door. There is a front doorbell just outside
the sliding door. Final entry is over a 7cm (three inch) step
through a hallway door. The hallway is 120 cm wide, it has a
laminate floor and is the only public access via the front door
and hall door. Parking and pathways and entry areas are
illuminated at night.
Useful info about the hotel and gardens
The Gulls is laid out over three floors. There are no ground
floor bedrooms, although the guest sitting room and breakfast
room are on the ground floor, both having wide access. There is
easy access between breakfast tables and one low threshold
through double doors gives access onto a level patio area. The
front terrace area has six steps to the front gate. Then the
footpath leading onto the main road is a steady walk down of a
distance of about 50 yards to the main road.
Bedrooms
There are nine bedrooms. Four can be made into twin rooms. There
are seven double en-suite and two family suites. All doors are
76 cm (30 inches wide). The bedrooms can be reached via a
staircase which is of wooden construction, with fixed carpets
and 84 cm wide. There is a substantial wooden banister at normal
waist height on one side. All light switches, with the exception
of pull cords, are approximately 130 cm from the floor. All
doors are of solid wood construction and are half hour fire
doors. Televisions have remote controls.
En-suites and showers
There are two rooms which contain baths. All the other rooms
have walk-in shower cubicles. There is one step of approximately
23 cm into each shower enclosure, three of which have double
sliding access; three others have single door access. Floors in
all eight en-suite rooms are laminated wood the other slate
tiles. Taps, hand basins, towel rails, mirrors and lavatory
fittings are at standard height. There is ease of movement in
two bathrooms, the others, though in big bedrooms, may be less
accessible to those with impaired mobility. There are several
electric socket points in each bedroom, all approximately 35 cm
from the floor. Bedside lights are push button switch operated.
Windows are approximately 90 cm from the floor and all are
double glazed and open via self locking thumb latches.
Emergency procedures
There is no other access to guest rooms and public areas other
than via the staircases and landings. There is an illuminated
emergency exit at the rear of the premises. There is a
centralised fire alarm system and smoke detectors in all areas.
Fire extinguishers are in all public areas. There is an
emergency lighting system and illuminated smoke detectors.
Guests with impaired hearing are asked to let us know at the
time of booking. There is a risk assessment document available
to all guests and emergency procedures are detailed in each
guest bedroom.
Looe and Surrounding Area
The Gulls is at the top of West Looe and there is a steep
incline to the harbour where most of the pubs, restaurants and
shops are situated. There is one pub, the Tom Sawyers Tavern,
nearby which is reached via Hannafore Road. There is also a
Bistro called the Waterfront just before the pub - about a two
minute walk on the flat once you have reached the bottom of our
footpath. There is a Texaco filling station in East Looe. The
main car park is near the harbour and has level access. There is
a Looe town bus which runs a shuttle service continually
throughout the day. |
